We are Beings of the Sea. Salt
Courses through our veined reefs, and hearts
Tread red water in tides beside the extremities of winds, blessings, and tragedies.
An ecosystem of balanced minerals lays the
Foundation of a thriving form long
Removed from its once deepwater womb.
We are Beings of the Trees. Long arms, opposable thumbs for
Reaching, grasping, handling.
Compassion and intellect for teaching, loving,
Sharing. We
Summit innumerable heights across bark, lichen, stone.
From wooden bones of well-rooted earth we
Fashion tools that one day
Proliferate into malleable clay of creation from which we
Collaborate to design, define, and visit after the great echelons of human civilization.
We are beings of the sky. With wings plucked from metal and ingenuity cradled by
“Why not?”, we
Chase Sun across sky in hollowed, metallurgic birds, and further
Ascend into the Black Sea of stars above.
More than anything, we are Beings of the Earth.
How more often we should be
Reminded of that simple, yet eternal, truth.
How more often we should dig fingers into well-tended soil, and
Feel the gentle pulse from a Matriarch of
Root, stone, soil, and Life.
Devoting time to maintaining Her,
The Mother of All Mothers, across all species and distinctions,
Resounds as a worthy cause that cannot be
Weathered away by time or technology.
For what else is left if we can no longer
Support the sea, sky, and earth that across
Spans of billions of breaths have
Supported us?
